Money Dress
2017 | Polyester Satin, Crepe de Chine, Cotton Interfacing, Dimes, & Bills
This garment was commissioned jointly by Omaha Fashion Week and SAC Federal Credit Union (now Cobalt Credit Union) for the 10 year anniversary of Omaha Fashion Week. As part of their partnership, a money dress was made each season for 10 years.
Because of the weight of the coinage used, this was one of the most complex and sturdy garments I had made yet. Over 3000 dimes were hand appliquéd to interfaced satin. Three petticoats were used to open the skirt to unveil sunburst pleated crepe de chine. Finally the belt and bow were made using interfaced crepe de chine and crisp new $10 bills.
In total, this gown had $335.60 hand appliquéd onto it.
